Heron Island Resort

In many ways, some of the Australian Island resorts are more than comparable with their counterparts in the Pacific Island nations. All along the east coast of Australia you can find a succession of beautiful island resorts, some located right on top of the Great Barrier Reef. These are mostly located along the coast of Queensland and enjoy a tropical or subtropical climate. Two of them are further south, off the coast of New South Wales and these are Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island. The latter has an important place in Australia’s early history when it was a convict penal colony and the former has a reputation for being the most beautiful island in the entire South Pacific Ocean.

Bedarra Island

The Queensland islands start in the far north where Lizard island is a destination for those seeking luxury accommodation in an isolated tropical paradise. The resort is superb and accessed by air from Cairns. To the south of Cairns are Dunk island and Bedarra Island. Dunk is a fantastic family destination, while Bedarra caters for only 30 or so guests at a time. It is expensive and private and these two attributes make it popular with famous people from around the world looking for a holiday destination that gets them away from the world at large. The fantastic Whitsunday Islands region lies just south of here and this region is probably Australia’s most popular. Hamilton Island resort with its fantastic new Golf Course and luxury accommodation leads the field from Hayman Island, Daydream island, long Island and Brampton Island, all of which are home to beautiful resorts.

Lord Howe Island

Towards the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef there are two coral cays where the resorts revolve around diving on the reef. Both are among the most beautiful of the Queensland islands. Further south there are a group of large sand islands that have fantastic attractions. Fraser Island, Moreton Island and Stradbroke Island feature beautiful lakes and rainforests that are the only ones in the world that grow in sand.

If you are considering a Pacific Islands holiday, then throw these Australian Islands into the mix before you make up your mind where you will stay.
